Ok so here is an update. I went to the Dr Yesterday. Had some more tests done and it is conclusive that I have Celiac Disease. The Dr explained my results this way: I have a positive Sprue test (the test for Celiac) and just like a pregnancy test, you are either pregnant or not. Not a little pregnant. Get it? So basically a positive means you have it. Now if my blood work was negative, that would not mean I did not have it, but a biopsy would be needed to make a complete diagnosis, so when you get a negative pregnancy test result it may just be because you tested too soon and not that you are not pregnant. So that is how he explained it to me. Then he proceeded to say he wants to schedule the biopsy on 4/16. So of course I intervened and wanted to know why I needed that if the blood work was positive. Well he wants to take a look at my intestines and see what they look like. He wants to see if there is severe damage. Because of this, he does not want me to cut gluten completely out of my diet until after the biopsy. So I am not over doing it but not really checking every label either. Next week will begin the start of a new life for me. YUCK! As I type this there are chocolate chip cookies out on Paulette’s desk just calling my name. I know he said to continue my regular diet, but I do not think he meant to over indulge either. I did find out that Trader Joe's carry’s a full line of Gluten Free products. I will have to make a trip there next week. As for this week, I still want to avoid the gluten because I feel really sick, but the Dr said as soon as you stop eating it the healing process begins and he does not want to cover up any findings.
