Sean’s birth story
Due to past preterm deliveries when I got pregnant with Sean my biggest concern was another premature baby. We decided with my history to put me on weekly injections of progesterone from 23 weeks on. At that point I was already 1 cm and 50% effaced. I had injections in the area above my butt every week that hurt quite a bit. I am not sure if anyone is in the medical field but Progesterone is an oil like substance, so we had to use large needle. I believe it was 20g. It would leave a large bruise and quite a bit of pain. I was ok with this because I started noticing my body reacting to it. It slows down everything which works to calm the uterus down. It will also cause massive heart burn and serious constipation though because it relaxes all the smooth muscles. OK back to the story. At 36 weeks I got my last shot. I went to the OB and I was 3 cm dilated and we assumed it would be any day. At that point we were so happy we made it to 36 weeks. Then another week passed and another. Finally at 39 weeks I went into the OB office and had my final check. Nothing changed except for some more thinning. He said we will induce on the 15th. So I finished that week at work and my last official day of work was January 11th. On the 15th I got a call from the hospital and they said they were having a hectic morning and that I may have to reschedule. ARRGGG I was annoyed. So Kevin and I decided to go ahead and install the car seat, go do some shopping and then finally relax. At 8pm my phone rang and it was the hospital. They said to go ahead and come up whenever I was ready. I was in shock. An hour later after dropping Becca and Kevin off at my Mom’s we were in L&D. They checked me and I was 4cm dilated and 70% effaced. I was in labor on my own, but it was not regular. At about 10 pm they started me on a pit drip. I would start contracting and then it would stop. It would start again, then stop. At about midnight I called the nurse and said what is the deal here. Then they realized that my IV pump was not working. They got a new pump hooked up and within and hour I was contracting well. At 4am I was checked again and I was 5cm and very uncomfortable. At around 5:30 I decided to get the epidural because they were going to break my water. Back to my nightmare deliveries with Kevin and Becca. With Becca they had me sit up with a pillow in front of me and bend over for my epidural. I got through it just fine and then about 5 seconds later I passed out. My BP bottomed out and they had to give me some drug to bring me back to earth. It scared the shit out of Kevin and I was at that point feeling pretty sick. With Kevin I got the epidural but this time I was 7-8cm and in very active labor. I was lying on my side this time and it took effect but only on one side. I basically felt everything on my right side. Something they call a hotspot? So with Sean the first thing I noticed is that here I am in a lot of pain and the same guy that did my epidural with Kevin is here to do this one. I told him he screwed up last time, please get it right this time. WRONG THING TO SAY. After I was pain free, I apologized profusely. As did Kevin. LOL
Well at 7:38 am my beautiful baby came into the world. I remember getting checked at 7:25. The Dr said you are about 8-9 see you in a little bit. He walked out of the room and literally seconds later I was telling the nurse Sean was coming out. She laughed at me and said I doubt it. Well she checked and said whatever you do, DO NOT PUSH. The Dr made it down the hall. He ran back in, got his gear on, and without a full push Sean was out. PEEING all over the Dr. I may add. I am so sorry that this was so long, but I needed to capture every moment. I am almost in tears as I sit here and type this. How could a year have gone by?
